Bloomington (Ind.) North at Indianapolis (Ind.) Decatur Central
Final Score: BHSN 70 – DHS 42
INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Olympian and former IU star Scott May has big shoes, but his son, Sean, is beginning to fill them. Even though he was hobbled with two early fouls in the first 5 ½ minutes of play against Decatur Central HS (IN) on Friday night, May still managed a double-double with 18 points on 6-10 shooting along with 11 rebounds.
With future coach, Matt Doherty, watching him from the bleachers, the 6-9, 250-pound bigman was perfect from the free throw line, hitting 6-6 while adding two assists, a block and a steal. One of the assists was a three-quarter-court-length pass threaded to a teammate for a layup.
The early foul trouble did not prevent May from being aggressive and hustling. Five of his rebounds came on the offensive end of the floor and, at the 6:50 mark of the 3rd period, the agile big man hit the floor to make an impressive diving steal.
High scorer for Decatur Central and the game was Travis Ham with 21 points. Sean's teammate Mike Davis, the son of IU's head coach, contributed 13 points and Errek Suhr scored 12.
Doherty was surrounded by autograph seekers after the game, and as he left, accomodated each fan. It seems that even though the Tar Heel head coach stole Indiana's finest, the locals still hold Doherty in high regard.
Next up, meanwhile, for Bloomington North is Muncie Central at BHSN on December 15.
