Sawyer setting up UNC visit

Although the size of his offers sheet has changed since the Tar Heels became the first to tender him back in April, the leader still remains the same for Tallahassee (Fla.) Godby cornerback E.K. Sawyer.

"It's just something about that program that I like," remarked Sawyer, who has received offers from Iowa State, Louisville, and Central Florida in addition to the Heels. "When I met the head coach [John Bunting] when he came out for our spring blue and white game, he seemed like a real cool dude. Plus the fact that Del [Roberts] went to Godby last year and he is there."

Sawyer has yet to visit Chapel Hill, but that figures to change shortly as he and recruiting coordinator Gunter Brewer are in the process of setting Sawyer's first official visit.

"The coach [Brewer] is going to call me back next week and try to work things out with an official visit," Sawyer said.

Visiting isn't the only topic of discussion during the phone conversations between Sawyer and his coaching contact. Coach Brewer has also explained the current position situation, while offering Sawyer the strong possibility of early playing time.

"He talked to me about how they aren't very deep in the defensive secondary right now," stated Sawyer. "So they are looking for people to come in and play right away. He asked me if I was up to the challenge and I said ‘Yes.'"

Sawyer's senior season is proving his claim of being up for the challenge. While helping Godby to a 3-1 record, Sawyer has posted 44 tackles and one interception, despite seeing limited plays on his side of the field.
