Tar Heels Near Sellout for Peach Bowl

CHAPEL HILL --- The University of North Carolina is less than 1,000 tickets away from reaching 23,000 in sales for the December 31 Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl game in Atlanta against the Auburn Tigers.

As a result, the University is offering a special promotion. Beginning today, anyone who purchases tickets to the game directly from the UNC athletic ticket office will be eligible for a drawing to receive two (2) season tickets to the 2002 college football season at Kenan Stadium. Two pairs of winning season tickets will be drawn.

Next season looks to be one of the most exciting home schedules in UNC history with Miami (Ohio), Texas, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Maryland and NC State all coming to Chapel Hill to face the Tar Heels.

"Carolina football fans have made a strong showing for the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl and a sellout is well within our reach," says UNC Director of Athletics Dick Baddour. "Carolina fans have already bought nearly 23,000 tickets from both the University and Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl headquarters. Now, we want to send our team to the game on an exciting note by selling out our own ticket allotment. And we want to thank our fans by offering this special package for the lucky fans which put us over the top.

"Ticket sales have picked up once again this week, thanks in part I believe to the start of the bowl season on television. I can*t think of a better way to head off to Atlanta than being sold out. We*re close to that goal and that*s a terrific compliment to our fans, especially in these difficult economic times. I want to say thank you to all our fans for their support. I can*t to wait to get to the Georgia Dome and see so many Tar Heel fans wearing Carolina Blue."

Fans may purchase tickets for the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl by contacting the UNC Athletic Ticket Office at 1-800-722-HEEL or 919-962-2296.
