Westchester (CA) defeated Male (KY), 67-56
1st Game: December 28, 2001

Junior phenom, 6-8 UNC recruit Trevor Ariza had a quiet night, scoring only four points and pulling down two rebounds while making his contribution with a solid defensive effort. Westchester was led by guards, Hassan Adams and Ashanti Cook with 12 points each. The USA Today top-ranked Comets literally stole the win with 16 picks from Male while only turning the ball over four times. Johnny Mathies led Male HS and all scorers with 16 points.

While Ariza's stat line isn't extraordinary, it doesn't have to be for this team. Tracy Pierson of PrepWestHoops.com says, "This team is just so deep. They come at you in waves. They're easily the best team on the West Coast." Stay tuned for more Ariza coverage as his moment to shine at the tournament is still to come. Westchester has a vast arsenal and Ariza is one of their many weapons.

Next up: Westchester faces 7-3 Shegari Alleyne and the super fast guards of Rice (NY) in Friday's 8:30 p.m. matchup. Male moves to the unenviable task of facing Kendrick Perkins and Beaumont Ozen (TX), Friday with an 11:30 a.m. tipoff in the losers' bracket.
