Nicholson: ‘I've Never Seen a Game Like That'

Derek Nicholson, the All-American linebacker from Mt. Tabor High School in Winston-Salem, returned from the UNC upset of Miami with a clearer picture of the Tar Heels and where they stack up in his list of favorites.

"I had never seen a game like that. It was a very exciting with a great atmosphere," Derek Nicholson said. "Everything about it exceeded my expectations. It's the first chance I have gotten to see the coaches in a game situation.

"I am starting to narrow my favorites list down and North Carolina will probably be in my Top 5."

Nicholson has been a good luck charm of sorts for North Carolina, as he and his brother, A.J., were in attendance for the 41-9 upset of the Seminoles back in 2001.

"That was another big game," he said.

Mt. Tabor team is 10-0 and steamrolling towards the playoffs. Nicholson has also been placed on the Shrine Bowl and the Army All-American Bowl rosters.

"It is going to be a little tough scheduling my official visits with the bowl games," he said. "I may have to schedule some earlier than I thought."
