Three Heels earn ACC weekly honors

Three North Carolina players earned ACC Football Players of the Week honors after their win over Miami.

OFFENSIVE BACK: Making his first career start, North Carolina tailback Chad Scott rushed for a career-high 175 yards on 25 carries and scored two touchdowns in the Tar Heels' 31-28 victory over No. 4 and previously unbeaten Miami Saturday. The Plant City, Fla., senior scored on a 14-yard run in the first half to tie the score at 14-all. In the third quarter, he had to be taken to the locker room with a hip pointer injury, but came back to score his second touchdown of the game on a 9-yard run to give North Carolina a 28-21 advantage.

OFFENSIVE LINE: North Carolina center Jason Brown and Maryland tackle Stephon Heyer were tabbed as Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week. Brown, a 6-3, 328-pound senior from Henderson, N.C., anchored an offensive line that paved the way for 279 yards rushing and 545 total offensive yards in North Carolina's 31-28 victory over Miami. Brown graded out at 92 percent overall, including 100 percent in the passing game, had 11 knockdowns and did not allow a sack. Despite playing with a sprained right knee, Heyer, a 6-6, 295-pound junior from Lawrenceville, Ga., earned the highest grade by a Terrapin offensive lineman in the Terps' 20-17 win over fifth-ranked Florida State Saturday. Heyer was in on a total of 74 plays and finished with two pancake blocks as the Terps totaled 378 yards of offense in the win.

SPECIAL TEAMS: North Carolina's Connor Barth kicked a game-winning 42-yard field goal as time expired to give North Carolina a 31-28 victory over No. 4 Miami Saturday. On the last possession of the game, Carolina drove the ball 55 yards on nine plays to the Miami 25-yard line to set up the field goal. Barth also converted all four extra point attempts as the Tar Heels evened their record at 4-4.
