Brown's Recruitment Progressing

Wilson (N.C.) Beddingfield athlete Everette Brown has moved into his more natural defensive end position this season, which he prefers to play over tight end and linebacker. Soon he will have to make another choice -- picking a college.

"Actually, it is getting closer," says the 6-foot-4, 238 pounder. "I've been telling everybody that I want to make my decision somewhere around Christmas or the first week in January.

"I'm starting to set up my official visits. I have one set up with Florida State the first week in December."

Brown says he plans to take visits to all of his favorites before making a decision.

"If at all possible, I know I have the Shrine Bowl, and that is going to take up two weekends," he said."

With favorites now set as NC State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Florida State, and Georgia, Brown said recently that the Hokies and Seminoles are in the lead. Is that still the case?

"They are still recruiting me strong, and I'm feeling strong about them," he said. "NC State, they are right there in the mix. With Florida State, I just have to get down there and see the campus and see what I like about actually being there. Right now, they are recruiting me real hard, and that is going good."

Another team that is high on Brown's list, North Carolina, picked up a big win over the weekend. However, Brown said the lasting impact of the game is not a big factor for his recruitment.

"It just shows what type of team they have to come out and not be afraid, especially being the underdog and come out and get a win," he said. "The only thing about North Carolina that I'm looking at real hard is the coaching staff; is it going to be stable. If it is, then I would put them highly in the favorites."

The tough part could be taking those visits. With this weekend off the table, and two weekends before Christmas gone due to the Shrine Bowl and preceding practice weekend, Brown has just four weeks in which to take official visits.
