"What can I say. This is a very difficult experience. Maryland, I can't imagine that there are some better teams than Maryland's basketball team… But we've got a long ways to go. We have to stick together and work hard. Stay positive as we can. These are very difficult times. The league, the schedule doesn't care. It doesn't care that we got a tough one at home on Saturday against Virginia."
On what he tells the team in the second half with the game out of reach
"You just have to, we have to play one possession at a time. You have to have pride and go out there and try to get better. At halftime you say ‘Lets try to go out there and cut it to 10 at the 10-minute mark.'"
On if he ever began to look past this game and ahead to the next one
"I've never did that. I was trying to coach our team, especially with the young guys in there. Melvin (Scott), Jawad (Williams), Jackie (Manuel), Adam (Boone), the freshmen and sophomores. They need to grow and they need to get better. Jawad at times did some nice things in the first half and he did throw the ball away a little bit. Melvin did some nice things. Jackie, it's a heck of an experience for them We just have to coach them every possession. I don't want to stop coaching until the final horn."
On the positives in the game
"I thought Jawad showed us some flashes in the first half. I thought Jackie did. I should have mentioned Jason Capel off the bat because I thought he was fantastic. He really played a great basketball game and again, I apologize for not saying that earlier because he deserves a lot of credit. It would be easy for him to shut down and get frustrated but I thought he showed a lot of courage. I thought Melvin played well in spurts
.On Brian Morrison not playing much
"Brian wasn't very sharp today, that's why."
Past games as well?
"He has got to take care of the basketball a little bit better and make better decisions and today he just wasn't mentally alert and that's why he didn't play that much."
On his health
"I'm getting a lot better real quick. That's the big thing. I just wanna get back in game shape."
On what he and Capel can do as seniors to keep the team positive
"We have to keep our head up. It's by actions. Keep working hard. If they see that from us then they are going to do it as well. If they see us moping around then they're gonna mope around as well and think the older guys are getting scared."
On if his personal goals have changed
"Just to stay healthy now. No. Not at all."
On what he can do to lead the younger players when times are tough
"I play hard regardless. Whether up 20 or down or 40 like tonight. That's just me. Hopefully that passes on to everybody because this is the big time, the top level and in order to win you gotta play hard for 40 minutes and that's something I think we all need to learn how to do."
On the positives from the game
"The game's finally over."
On the freshmen's progress, especially considering struggles that come in bunches.
"I think they are progressing. The biggest thing is they are willing to learn. They're working hard in practice. But you can't prepare somebody in practice for ACC level basketball. It's really impossible and they're putting forth the effort but until they get some experience in this kind of basketball then maybe they won't be making as many mistakes. But they're definitely headed in the right direction."
On playing hard late despite getting blown out
"It's difficult but when you step on that court the game is 40 minutes regardless if you're down by 40, wearing this jersey you go hard every minute you are out there whether you are up 40 or down 40. When you step across that line you gotta play hard."
On why the game got so out of reach
"We didn't play well. I'll tell you that, we did not play well. But Maryland did. You gotta expect that when you come into Cole … ACC road games. You gotta expect crowds to be into it and they're going to be ready. It's just like anybody coming to the Smith Center. We're gonna be ready for Virginia on Saturday, I can guarantee you that."
On where the Heels go from here
"Back to practice. We go up. We definitely go up. At midnight it is another day. We gotta get ready for Virginia and we gotta get ready for that one."
