UNC Injury News:
UNC senior forward Jason Capel suffered a mild concussion in practice on Tuesday. He did not travel to Tallahassee, Fla., for tonight's game against FSU. His status for Saturday's game at Connecticut is unknown at this time. Capel, who leads the team in scoring and rebounding, suffered the concussion while diving for a loose ball.
Capel leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in rebounds at 10.3 and is seventh in the league in scoring at 16.8 points per game.
FSU Season to Date: The Seminoles' non-conference season has echoed past years. Playing a relatively easy slate of opponents, FSU lost to Northwestern, Western Carolina and American, though rebounded to beat a solid South Florida squad. And, unlike recent years, FSU pulled off a stunning upset of No. 1 Duke a week ago. Now, they seek to record their first-ever home sweep of North Carolina and Duke in the same season. (2001-2002 Schedule w/Results)
A "Code Garnet emergency" has been declared by the FSU program for the game, with all Seminole fans being asked to wear their best garnet colored Seminole-wear. "All Florida State fans are challenged to show their support for Steve Robinson and the Seminole men's basketball team against the Tar Heels and make the inside of the Civic Center a sea of garnet the likes of which have not been seen here in recent memory," reads the FSU release.
The Seminoles are led by senior point guard Delvon Arrington. While not a major offensive threat, he's established himself as one of the ACC's top floor generals. FSU's scoring has come from the surprising Monte Cummings (averaging 18.8 points since Dec. 8), while Antwuan Dixon is potent from both inside and out. Fayetteville, N.C. native Michael Joiner is showing signs of improvement and freshmen Anthony Richardson is putting up solid numbers off the bench. Nigel "Big Jelly" Dixon is almost unrecognizable in his trimmed-down build, and head coach Steve Richardson has a deep stable of frontcourt reserves.
FSU Probable Starting Lineup:
Delvon Arrington (5-11, Sr., G) 10.2 pts, 7.2 ast
Monte Cummings (6-4, Sr., G) 14.5 pts, 4.2 reb
Antwuan Dixon (6-5, Sr., F) 10.4 pts, 4.2 reb, 37% 3pt
Michael Joiner (6-7, So., F) 8.0 pts, 5.5 reb
Nigel Dixon (6-10, Jr., F/C) 8.7 pts, 6.6 reb
Anthony Richardson (6-7, Fr., F) 9.5 pts, 4.2 reb
Mike Mathews (6-10, Jr., F/C) 4.4 pts, 2.4 reb, 1.7 blk
Adam Waleskowski (6-8, Fr., F) 3.3 pts, 2.6 reb
Trevor Harvey (6-11, Jr., C) 3.2 pts, 2.1 reb
Last Season's Matchups: The Tar Heels swept the season series with Florida State last year. UNC survived a scare from the 'Noles on Jan. 20 in Tallahassee, leading by only three points with under eight minutes left, but prevailed 80-70. A month later in Chapel Hill, Carolina routed FSU, 95-67. Joseph Forte averaged 32.0 points for the Heels in the two games, while Brendan Haywood posted 6.0 blocks. For the 'Noles, Delvon Arrington averaged 15.0 points and 4.0 assists.
