Tar Heel signee Rashad McCants and his undefeated New Hampton squad traveled to Maine to play Bridgton last night.
New Hampton struggled in the first half, hampered by foul trouble, and Bridgton led 43-36 at the break.
Bridgton opened up the lead at the outset of the second half, hitting their first three threes, but New Hampton was able to close the margin to 55-47 midway through the half.
At this point, McCants took charge.
He hit four straight threes, totaling 16 points in the final 10 minutes, and when Bridgton sent extra defenders at McCants, he found the open teammates and they hit their shots. Still, New Hampton trailed by three in the final minute.
McCants answered the call, hitting a three, with with under 20 seconds remaining -- but New Hampton had called a timeout a split-second before McCants fired the shot.
Unfazed, McCants drained a three in the final seconds to send the game into an extra session.
The future Tar Heel lead New Hampton in the overtime -- and then in the second overtime -- as the they prevailed 97-90.
McCants' final totals for the game were 44 points, seven rebounds, four assists, three blocks and three steals.
Up next for New Hampton is undefeated Winchedon (Mass.) on Friday night.
