WR's Decision Imminent

Talonnie Russell, the explosive wide receiver from Detroit DePorres High School, is nearing a decision.

"I plan on deciding before the end of Christmas break," Talonnie Russell told Inside Carolina on Monday. "I will choose between North Carolina, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan State.

"I would have to say right now all the teams are about even. I need to just sit down and think things through."

Recently, Russell visited Chapel Hill on an official visit.

"It was a good visit," he said. "We spent to time with the coaches and players. We ate a lot. I learned about the academic support. I talked to Coach [John] Bunting and he said how much he wanted me. Coach [Gunter] Brewer told me that he wanted me to attend UNC and that I would be a big asset to the program."

Russell had planned on going on more official visits but now thinks he has seen enough.

"I had one scheduled but I don't think I will take it."

North Carolina was Russell's only official visit, but he did attend camp at Michigan State.

Russell displayed his athletic ability in a 20-13 playoff win over Mendon in the state semifinals. He accounted for all three of DePorres' touchdowns, catching two and scoring on a reverse. Russell also contributed on defense, intercepting two passes.

On a team blessed with wide receiver talent, Russell is a teammate of Notre Dame commit David Grimes.
