Minus Teasley, Heels stumble at Wake Forest

A Tar Heel squad minus Nikki Teasley allowed a 9-9 Wake Forest team to set the tempo and eventually, take the 65-64 win.

A Tar Heel squad minus Nikki Teasley allowed a 9-9 Wake Forest team to set the tempo and eventually, take the 65-64 win. Teasley sat out the game after a one contest suspension for conduct unbecoming the team vs Georgia Tech.

Down by eleven at the half, the Heels got close enough to take a lead late in the game, 64-63 with twenty seconds to go but Deacon Adell Harris drove the paint and was fouled by Candice Sutton with 12 seconds on the clock. Harris made both, her only free throws of the game.

As in every other loss for the Heels, field goal percentage was a problem. Eventhough Wake shot a dismal 36% from the field, the Heels did them one worse shooting 31%. While UNC outrebounded Wake, the margin was only five - shocking since Wake is much smaller.

Leah Metcalf led the Tar Heels with 17 points, seven steals and five rebounds. Chrystal Baptist added 11 points and 11 rebounds.

UNC is on a two-game losing streak with the losses to Wake and Tech. Next up for the Tar Heels is another ACC road game, this one at sixth ranked Duke on Jan. 24 at 7pm. Duke is lead by super sophomore Alana Beard, who leads the ACC in scoring, field-goal percentage and steals.
