Another Honor For QB Signee

As if a state title and Mr. Football honors weren't enough, Cade Thompson has added another award to the trophy case.

The 6-4 quarterback at Maryville (Tenn.) High is now also the 2004 East Tennessee Prep Player of the Year and the overall state winner of the 2004 Charles Greenhill Prep Player of the Year honor.

According to the Lawrenceburg Quarterback Club, which presents the award, "The winner of this award excels on the football field, but he also is an outstanding student, a leader and role model with his fellow students, and makes outstanding contributions to his local community."

Thompson completed 154-of-250 passes for 2,361 yards, with 32 touchdowns and only three interceptions, for 15-0 Maryville.

"One of the things that has helped Cade is he has really flown under the radar," said Maryville head coach George Quarles. "He wasn't on a lot of lists; part of it is because he's so quiet. But his best football days are ahead of him. He can do all those things those other guys can do."

Here are the previous winners of the award --- 1980: Kent Austin, 1981: Jeff Womack, 1982: Charles Greenhill, 1983: Keith Davis, 1984: Eric Still, 1985: Brent Collins, 1986: Leroy Thompson, 1987: Todd Collins, 1989: Carl Williamson, 1990: Jason Layman, 1991: Todd Helton, 1992: Curtis Alexander, 1993: Michael Coleman, 1994: Alvin Duke, 1995: Eric Westmoreland, 1996: Austin Kemp, 1997: Joey Matthews, 1998: Troy Fleming, 1999: Charles Greenhill, 2000: Ingle Martin, 2002: Daniel Brooks, 2003: Demonte Bolden
