Hemby: 'The Right Place For Me'

Jordan Hemby of Morganton (N.C.) Freedom didn't expect to decide between his two in-state finalists for a couple more weeks. However, sometime Wednesday night the Scout.com three-star cornerback got an itch to call his recruiting coordinator, Brad Lawing, to seal his fate and become a Tar Heel.

"Last night I called the coach [Lawing] and told him," stated Hemby. "He was happy and excited."

After visiting North Carolina and N.C. State, Hemby narrowed his list of favorites from four, by cutting Virginia Tech and Clemson and canceling the official visits to both schools.

The battle between UNC and NCSU lasted about a month, but in the end North Carolina was just a better fit for the 5-foot-11, 175-pounder.

"I just thought it was the right place for me," explained Hemby. "It's a nice football program, the facilities are nice, and I like the campus and the players."

With Hemby blanketing half the secondary, Freedom recorded an 8-3 record. On the year he had seven interceptions running one in for a touchdown.

According to Hemby, he is fully qualified, but isn't quite sure when he plans to enroll.
