Report: Webster to TSU

Assistant football coach James Webster will depart UNC to become the head coach at Tennessee State, according to The Tennessean. Webster was the first assistant hired by John Bunting when he took over in Chapel Hill.

Webster, 54, would not confirm his appointment last night. However, another of the five finalists — Toledo defensive line coach Dennis Winston — said he had been notified by TSU officials that Webster had been chosen to succeed James Reese, pending approval by the Tennessee Board of Regents.

"I can't make any statement until the (TSU) athletics director makes an official statement," Webster said. "I just think that's the right thing to do. Once she makes a statement, I'll be glad to talk.''
