He said he spent some time talking to the UNC staff during the unofficial trip.
"My dad and I sat around with Coach Bunting, Coach Browning, and Coach Tranquil. Coach Tranquil and I talked about different plays and sets. I plan to enroll in June so that I can start looking at plays and stuff. I have been coming down as much as I can to learn."
Rome did see a couple of other recruits while he was visiting Carolina.
"The big tight end Hannah was there as well as Greg Boone and his teammate Tommy Lawrence," he said. "He was pretty good as a defensive back up here. I think he had like seven interceptions."
Rome also traveled to Charlotte to see the Heels football team play in the Continental Tire Bowl.
"It was a tough loss but that fan support was awesome," he said. "Having 63,000 people there made it look like a home game."
Rome has gotten more popular with the in-state institutions since his commitment to UNC.
"Virginia and Virginia Tech offered me after I committed to Carolina," he said. "They said that they did not realize that I had committed. It still is too little too late."
He also had offers from Penn State, Richmond, and James Madison.
