Thompson: 'I Always Wanted to Play in the SEC'

Record-setting quarterback Cade Thompson of Maryville, Tenn., switched his commitment from North Carolina to South Carolina on Tuesday.

"I grew up a Tennessee fan and I always wanted to play in the SEC," Cade Thompson said. "Playing for South Carolina, I'll get a chance to play in Neyland Stadium. Also, Coach [Steve] Spurrier has a good track record with QBs. My family and I went down on a visit to Columbia this past weekend and liked what we saw."

So, was there anything that North Carolina did that pushed Thompson away?

"[Gunter Brewer] left the program so that bothered me a little bit," he said. "I loved the rest of the coaching staff at North Carolina."

Thompson down played UNC's depth chart as a deciding factor.

"Well, Cameron Sexton and I were more or less even," Thompson said. "But with him being an in-state guy, I thought maybe the fans would pull for him a little more."

He does not plan to visit North Carolina this weekend as he had previously scheduled.
