Thomas Firmly Committed

Despite his verbal commitment to North Carolina almost a year ago, rival coaching staffs have continued to recruit -- and rumors have continued to circle around -- Camaron Thomas of Robbins (N.C.) North Moore.

In addition to his December official trip to Chapel Hill, it was believed that the 6-foot-5, 310-pound defensive tackle would officially visit other schools. However, Thomas has put an end to those rumors.

"[N.C.] State has kind of talked about [officially] visiting," stated Thomas. "But I'm not making any [official] visits. I'm done with recruiting."

South Carolina was another program hot on Thomas for awhile, but after the change in guard from Lou Holtz to Steve Spurrier interest has dropped.

"I haven't heard from them in a while," remarked Thomas. "My cousin [Syvelle Newton] plays out there and I haven't heard from him in a while."

Thomas hosted assistant coach Brad Lawing for an in-home visit Wednesday night to solidify his commitment and work on qualifying issues. Once Thomas gets his SAT score squared away, he will be fully qualified and ready to enroll in the summer.
