No Room Left For Russell

Detroit wide receiver Talonnie Russell said he was told North Carolina had run out of scholarships for wide receivers after Kenton Thornton committed to the Tar Heels on Tuesday.

"They called and let me know that they didn't have a scholarship left," Talonnie Russell told Inside Carolina Wednesnday night. "I'll probably pick Illinois.

"North Carolina said that I would probably have to attend military school first if I wanted to go there."

Russell had visited the Tar Heels previously and was at Illinois this past weekend.

"The Illinois visit went fine," he said. "I liked it about the same as the North Carolina visit."

The Tar Heels have four wide receiver commitments for the 2005 class: Thornton, Dirk Engram, Brandon Tate, and Richard Quinn, who may move to tight end.
