Flukerberry Chooses Carolina

Although an official visit to Chapel Hill won him over, it took a little time and comparing of schools for Dwight Flukerberry of Miami (Fla.) Norland to seal the deal and verbally commitment to North Carolina.

"When I went on the [official] visit, I thought it was a real good place to go to school, get my education, graduate and be successful in life," explained Flukerberry.

South Florida was the only other school Flukerberry officially visited, but he did own scholarship offers from Rutgers, Miami, N.C. State and USF.

"I took my visit to North Carolina in December. When I went to other schools, I didn't feel they matched up with North Carolina's program," he said.

A true athlete in every sense of the word, Flukerberry played four positions for Miami Norland High School. However, the UNC coaching staff decided where they want the 6-foot-2, 190-pounder and his 4.50-second forty speed playing at the collegiate level.

"They want me at free safety," he said. "I played quarterback, safety, receiver, running back, but North Carolina wants me at free safety."

He also averages double-digits on the Norland basketball team [photographed right].

Flukerberry will not join his high school teammates – Gary Watts and Garrett White – in their previously scheduled trip to Rutgers this weekend as he said he is firmly committed to the Tar Heels.
