Strong Finalizes Decision

Talking to Jermaine Strong on Sunday evening, it seemed like signing with North Carolina on Signing Day was a given all along.

The three-star cornerback, who visited Illinois last weekend, admits he considered the Fighting Illini for a split second, but that he is a Tar Heel through and through.

"I talked to [the UNC coaching staff] a couple days ago and told them I have Tar Heel blood," remarked Strong. "I liked the visit [to Illinois], but I'm committed to North Carolina. I mean, I thought about it a little bit, but I'm straight now."

What sealed the deal was how the Tar Heels' coaching staff made Strong feel like a priority. With Illinois and their new coaching staff, that wasn't the case.

"With North Carolina we just connected," commented Strong. "When I went on a visit they really paid me attention. They talked to me a lot. But, with Illinois, they liked me but they didn't really talk to me that much, because there was another player up there and it seemed like they were more interested in him."

A native of Shelby (N.C.), Strong is currently enrolled at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. At 5-foot-10, 180 pounds and owning a 4.35-second forty-time, Strong is an ideal shutdown corner.
