White Discusses His Commitment

Patience paid off for Garrett White of Miami (Fla.) Norland. After playing the waiting game with North Carolina for the last few months, the 6-foot-2, 225-pound linebacker was finally offered by the Tar Heels' coaching staff on Friday.

"On Friday my Coach [Nigel Dunn] called me down to his office," explained White. "Coach [Marvin] Sanders and Coach [John] Bunting were in there. I came in and they told me they have a scholarship for me.

"So I took it right there."

White has a hard time pin-pointing what it is about North Carolina that won him over, but he admits his favoring of the Tar Heels began during his mid-January official visit to Chapel Hill.

"I just felt right with them," remarked White. "I just had a feeling that it was right. I felt right during the visit."

White canceled his scheduled official visit to Rutgers this past weekend, solidifying his commitment. The Scout.com two-star recruit also considered South Florida, where his good friend and teammate Gary Watts committed last week.

Another of White's high school teammates, Dwight Flukerberry, also committed to Carolina last week.
