Strong Achives Goal Of Attending UNC

Jermaine Strong has ended any speculation about the final result of his commitment and signed a letter of intent with North Carolina, and after a year at Fork Union Military Academy he couldn't be happier.

"In the military setting like this, it is all about working hard and getting to your eventual goal. While I will continue to do that that way, my goal here was to go to college at Carolina, and now that's for sure," Strong said after a signing day ceremony that included 20 other FUMA players.

The deciding factor for Strong came down to a combination of academics and interpersonal relationships, but the first thing that pops out of his mouth is the relationship that he has with UNC head coach John Bunting and running backs coach Andre Powell.

"I went on other visits, and it really didn't seem like the coaches wanted to talk to me that much or were that interested in me," Strong said. "At Carolina, Coach Bunting and Coach Powell made me feel really wanted. They would take time to talk to me when I was there, they would call me to make sure that I was doing all right and everything was going well.

"I really love that and love those guys, they are great men."

With a qualifying SAT score and having made the honor roll this semester at FUMA, Strong is certain that he will be in Chapel Hill for the summer sessions.

"I have focused on academics here, and I'm going to be there in the summer when I wanted to be," he said. "Academics also were very important in my decision, so I'm looking forward to that challenge."
