Thigpen To UNC

Tommy Thigpen is coming back to Chapel Hill. The former All-ACC Carolina standout has left his current position at Illinois to take a post on the UNC coaching staff.

Thigpen (UNC, '94), who has spent the past three seasons on the Illinois staff, earned All-ACC honors in his playing days at Carolina. After being drafted in the NFL, Thigpen played a couple seasons professionally (New York Giants, Barcelona Dragons) before entering the coaching ranks as a graduate assistant at UNC in 1998.

According to sources close to the situation, Thigpen will be named UNC's linebackers coach Tuesday afternoon.
