Back-to-back wins for New Hampton

New Hampton avenged their sole loss of the season by holding on to beat Winchedon, 103-96, on Tuesday night.

"We outplayed them," Rashad McCants said. "We should have beaten them the first time we played, but we beat ourselves."

McCants had 22 points, seven boards, three assists, three blocks, one steal and took two charges.

The 6-3 McCants spent significant time guarding Winchedon's star seven-footer, Martin Iti, who is expected to enter the NBA Draft this spring.

"I was on him half the game," McCants said. "I had to guard him. Most taller players seem to think it's a mismatch, but I see it as an opportunity to take more charges and help the team win."

New Hampton teammate Wes Miller said, "(Iti's) supposed to be going to the NBA out of high school, but he didn't even score against us. Rashad is an animal ... He's great defensively now and his shot has gotten much better. He's also a much better leader."

New Hampton then upped their record to 18-1 with a 91-65 thrashing of Phillips Exeter on Wednesday afternoon.

McCants posted 25 points (including five threes in a row at one point), four rebounds and three assists.

Due to bad weather, New Hampton will not be traveling this weekend, therefore cancelling today's game against Princeton JV and tomorrow's game against Penn JV. The next game is on Monday at St. Thomas More.
