2006: Marcus Dodson

Although Signing Day '06 is almost a year away, North Carolina is hard at work on the junior class, as evidenced by being listed among the five favorites of one of the top recruits from Virginia.

Thanks in large part to a solid finish to the 2004 football campaign and a basketball program that is among the nation's best, Marcus Dodson of Danville (Va.) George Washington includes UNC along with Maryland, Virginia Tech, Virginia, and Michigan in his early top five.

"I have always liked UNC," stated Dodson, who has already made his way onto some early Top 20 state rankings. "I like the basketball team. The football team, the accomplishments they made this year making that far to a bowl game. I just like that school as a whole."

Currently, Dodson lacks a North Carolina offer. However, the 6-foot-3, 245-pound tight end hopes that will all change once the Tar Heels' coaching staff receives his highlight film.

"They send me questionnaires and have requested game film," remarked Dodson. "They also sent me letters about their summer camp. They said 15 of the 24 recruits [that signed with UNC] went to their summer camp."

Dodson hasn't committed to attending UNC's summer camp, but he is strongly considering including a trip to Chapel Hill among his camping stops this summer.

Although Dodson is being recruited as a tight end by the Heels, he saw limited action on offense last season and played defensive end where he earned All-District and All-Area honors. As a sophomore Dodson did play tight end where he also ended the year by being named to the All-District and All-Area teams.
