Bowman, Thomas Off Football Team

Sophomores Adarius Bowman and Isaiah Thomas are no longer on the football team, according to sources close to the situation. <b>Friday, 2 p.m. Update</b> - North Carolina has issued a statement confirming <i>Inside Carolina</i>'s report.

Sophomore linebacker Fred Sparkman has not been enrolled this semester and has said he intended to transfer.

All three have been listed by the University as "indefinitely suspended" from the football team since October 11, after they were cited for simple possession of marijuana by UNC public safety officers. On Friday, the University released the following statement ...

"Adarius Bowman and Isaiah Thomas will no longer be members of the North Carolina football team. Due to the Federal Education Right To Privacy Act (FERPA), the University can not make any further comment on this matter."

Bowman, a wide receiver from Chattanooga, Tenn., had 18 receptions for 329 yards (18.3/catch, 54.8/game) last season. Thomas, a defensive tackle from Winston-Salem, N.C., recorded 9 tackles last season. Sparkman, from Columbia, Tenn., recorded 61 tackles.

North Carolina's spring practice begins Friday.
