State Commit Attends UNC Junior Day

Somewhat surprisingly, among North Carolina's Junior Day visitors was N.C. State verbal commit Gavin Smith of Raleigh (N.C.) Wakefield.

Plucking Smith from N.C. State's commitment list would be a difficult task. Regardless, the 6-foot-4, 265-pound offensive tackle enjoyed his stay.

"It went well, I had a pretty good time there," stated Smith. "We got to hang out; it was like your normal junior day."

With his proximity to Chapel Hill, Smith is already very familiar with the campus.

"I didn't get too much time to talk to the coaches during [the Junior Day]," remarked Smith "But, I got to talk to the coaches before I went to a game during football season last year. It was Coach [Ken] Browning."

During conversations with the Tar Heels' coaching staff discussions of an offer weren't brought up to Smith, who owns tenders from Duke and N.C. State. They did, however, invite him to their summer camp, which Smith said he gladly accepted.

From his defensive tackle position, Smith posted 77 tackles, while causing three fumbles and recovering two others. Smith is also a force on the mat as he was the 4A State runner-up in wrestling posting a 46-5 record.
