Crittenton Collecting Early Offers

His season ended one win short of a state title. Atlanta's Javaris Crittenton lost last weekend in the state championship game and a few days later he shared his thoughts on the latest in regards to his recruitment.

Point guards that are 6-foot-5 don't exactly come along that often. In fact, most of the time we want to turn kids that size into shooting guards. Not this time though as Atlanta Southwest Christian Academy standout Javaris Crittenton will have none of that.

"That's something I try to overcome during the AAU season last year," Crittenton said. "I ran the point, I passed up open shots and I just passed the ball. I wanted to shake that combo guard off.

"I just like getting teammates involved. My favorite player is Magic Johnson. I study film on how he gets his teammates involved. I think we kind of have the same style."

So far, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Florida State and Tennessee see things his way. Each has offered. As of this week, his current list reads Kentucky, Florida, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Wake Forest and North Carolina.

Like many prospects, Crittenton will use the spring period to see who is serious about him as teams make their evaluations.

It was once thought that Georgia Tech was the team to beat and the Jackets have recently moved on and off his list. Paul Hewitt's bunch seems to always hang in there with him and while he's not hot and heavy with them right now, it'd be a wise move never to count Tech out of the picture completely.

"I want to put myself in a position to play my freshman year," Crittenton said. "I'd like to start. I'd like to be the guy they trust to run the team."

He is currently ranked No. 48 by Scout.com.
