Coach Q's latest travels

<i>IC</i>'s Zeke Martins reports on the recent whereabouts of UNC assistant coach Fred Quartlebaum.

* On Tuesday night, Quartlebaum was in Newton, N.C. to watch Julius Powell, a 6-8 freshman at Newton-Conover H.S. In the game, Powell scored 34 points against Bunker Hill H.S. This class of 2005 star is certainly a name to keep in mind in the coming years.

* Quartlebaum is heading to New York today to check out Xaverian High star Chris Taft. The 6-9, 220-pound junior post player has mentioned North Carolina in recent interviews with IC. (11/13/01 -- Junior to Watch: Chris Taft, 01/17/02 -- Chris Taft update)

* In light of recent viewings, the Tar Heel staff is showing an increased interest in Anthony King, the 6-8, 225-pound junior double-double machine at Durham (N.C.) Southern. King is teammates with David Noel, the senior wing who will walk on the Tar Heel basketball team next fall.
