2006: Benjamin Tate

The offers continue to roll in for Benjamin Tate, who proved last season that he is one of the best running backs on the east coast. The Berlin (Md.) Stephen Decatur athlete ran for nearly 3000 yards and earned All-State honors for his showing. Now he holds several scholarship offers from around the nation.

"I have a Maryland offer, Auburn offer, Michigan State, and North Carolina," said the 5-foot-10, 190-pounder. "I'm looking at those schools as well as Virginia, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and others. None of them stand out, not right now."

Tate plans to camp at Auburn, and may take in one or two more schools as well. He has already hit the road this spring, and visited two schools for their junior days.

"I've been to North Carolina lately for their junior day, and I've been to Maryland for their junior day," he said. "Maryland wasn't anything special because I've been there so many times and I know whats there.

"North Carolina surprised me with their facilities, because they are known as a basketball school, so I figured their football facilities wouldn't be too good," Tate continued. "But they're actually the best that I've seen so far, so that really surprised me."

As those scholarship offers are destined to flow in even more for Tate, he knows that he cannot make a decision any time soon, and he wants to wait until the last minute before making a decision.

"I'm looking to maybe graduate early, like Derrick Williams did, but if it doesn't come down to that I'll probably wait until signing day."
