Big weekend for McCants

New Hampton spent the weekend at the National Prep School Invitational in Rhode Island this weekend, notching two wins thanks to the impressive play of Rashad McCants.

On Friday night, the opponent was IMG Academy (Fla). New Hampton led by five points at the half, but potential Tar Heel walk-on Wes Miller drained four straight threes out of the locker room to put the game out of reach. New Hampton prevailed, 102-70.

McCants finished with 35 points, six assists, five boards, four steals and two blocks. Miller had 21 points (all on threes) and seven assists.

The following day, New Hampton met Grassroots Canada. The squad from Toronto featured UConn-bound Denham Brown, who scored an amazing 111 points in his previous game.

McCants led the way with a huge game, as New Hampton won 90-76 to improve to 21-2 overall.

McCants' totals -- 42 points, six boards, three assists, two steals and three blocks.

Next up is the school's own New Hampton Invitational, which begins on Friday.
