Heels First To Offer Whitley

Recruiting has started to heat up for Norman Whitley of Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond Senior as of late. Virginia, Tennessee, and Clemson have begun to pick up their recruiting efforts, but it was North Carolina that extended the 5-foot-10, 180-pound tailback his first scholarship offer.

"Carolina offered Thursday," said Whitley. "I'm supposed to go up there for the spring game this weekend to make it official."

Whitley was in Chapel Hill a few weekends back when he attended their second junior day. He has also attended Virginia's junior day, and hopes to make campus visits to Clemson and Tennessee.

Although Whitley is playing the "everybody is equal" card when asked about favorites, he sees the benefits of becoming a Tar Heel.

"The University of North Carolina is a great school," said Whitley. "They've been up and down the last few years, but I think they are a good football program. I'm confident that I'll play where ever I go, but North Carolina right now only has one main back."

Whitley hasn't made any summer camping plans, but he will be attending the Nike and U.S. Army All-American Combines.

Last season, Whitley rushed 290 times for a record 2,666 yards and 33 touchdowns.
