Manuel, Williams at Portsmouth - Saturday Update

North Carolina's Jackie Manuel and Jawad Williams had little time to celebrate their national championship, as their attention now turns to professional basketball. The two seniors are at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament this week, which is an NBA Draft showcase event.


Jackie Manuel: Did not play, his team was eliminated on Friday.

Jawad Williams: Played a team-high 29 points in a consolation championship game loss, scoring 17 points and grabbing four rebounds. He shot 7-of-14 from the field, 0-for-3 on three pointers and 3-of-4 at the free throw line. He also recorded an assist and a steal. Oklahoma State's Ivan McFarlin had a game-high 34 points and 11 boards for the winning team.


Jackie Manuel: Continued his impressive week in Portsmouth with 14 points and 10 rebounds against Jawad Williams' team. Manuel was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line and 3-of-7 from the field.

Jawad Williams: Totaled 20 points -- the second highest scoring total in the game -- and added 10 rebounds and two blocks. Williams shot 9-of-17 from the field and 2-of-3 at the line. He got a game-high 35 minutes of playing time.


Jackie Manuel: Was the star of the early evening contest, with a game-high 22 points for Beach Barton Ford in an 86-81 losing effort. Manuel filled up the stat line shooting 10-of-12 from the field, 2-of-3 at the free throw line and posting 6 rebounds, 4 blocks, 2 assists and 1 steal.

Jawad Williams: Started in the last game of the evening in which his Tidewater Sealants team was routed, 103-69. Williams recorded 8 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 steal in 25 minutes of action. Shot 3-for-8 from the field, 0-for-3 from beyond the arc and 2-for-2 at the line. Wake Forest's Taron Downey led the winning Norfolk Naval team with 9 assists to go with 10 points.
