BW: Tywon Lawson Spotlight

HAMPTON, Va. -- Earlier this week, Tywon Lawson took over the No. 1 point guard spot in Dave Telep's rankings. Friday night at the Boo Williams Invitational, he certainly backed up that lofty ranking.

Lawson blitzed the Portland Legends for 19 points (6-10 FG, 7-9 FT), nine assists and five steals.

It was a performance that included showing the ability to get in the lane at will and dish, a terrific mid-range runner, and a better athlete than you might expect as he skied for finishes in traffic. Lawson fueled the fast break, making the right passes in transition or taking it all the way himself for strong finishes. On defense, he overplayed at the top of the key (sometimes bordering on over-aggressive), shutting down passing lanes and picking off a number of passes.

In summary, he looked like the top point guard in the class.

How is your recruitment going currently?

Two coaches came to visit me this past week--Roy Williams and Skip Prosser. My top three are North Carolina, Wake Forest, and Georgia Tech.

Their playing style. Roy Williams was telling me how his teams have been ranked.

Do you have a time frame for a decision?

Probably from the middle of the summer to the fall.

What have the coaches told you about playing time?

If I come in and work hard I might start.

Can you play in transition?

I like the transition game. That's what I'm best at.

I went up for an unofficial to see them play Duke, and Roy Williams has been up to see me."

It has affected it a little bit. It was a great atmosphere. It was fun.
