Heels Lead For Havelock ATH

North Carolina has been in hot pursuit of Havelockquarterback Bruce Carter since a member of the Tar Heel staff happened to catch a game his junior year in high school.

"Coach [Brad] Lawing saw one of my games last year. They have been recruiting me ever since."

Carolina is recruiting Carter as either a safety or a running back, but with his size, speed, and athleticism he could play any number of positions. He has made a couple of trips to Chapel Hill already.

"North Carolina is a really good school and they are my favorite," Carter said. "I was offered at one of their junior days. I had the opportunity to speak to the coaching staff there.

"They told me that they would really like me to play for North Carolina and that they would be excited if that was my choice."

Carter, who comes from a family of UNC fans, said he isn't sure what he would like to major in but appreciates the academic reputation at North Carolina.

"I am going to the UNC camp (in June) and probably the East Carolina camp," he said. "I plan on making my commitment sometime during the summer."
