Stepheson Still Sorting Schools

Alex Stepheson, the 6-8 junior post from North Hollywood (Calif.) Harvard-Westlake, will be playing in his first tournament of the April evaluation period this weekend, when he takes the court with the Pum N' Run #1 team in the Pump N' Run Classic Tournament in Las Vegas. Stepheson missed last weekend's Pump N' Run Spring tournament since he had a school function he had to attend.

"School is more important than basketball, right?" said Diane Stepheson, Alex's mom.

The family indicated they didn't want to share too many details about Alex's recruitment at this point.

"I'm just really putting a serious list together, so I don't want to say too much right now," Alex said.

Stepheson's father did say off the top of his head that, among the schools that have offered his son a scholarship, Connecticut, Arizona and UCLA were among the favorites, but the Stephesons are still looking at every school that's of interest to Alex.

When asked what other schools had shown interest but hadn't offered, Mr. Stepheson said, "We've been hearing from North Carolina."

UCLA head coach Ben Howland visited Harvard-Westlake Thursday for an in-school visit with Stepheson.
