Felton, Latta begin playoffs on Friday

Raymond Felton and the defending South Carolina 1A champion Latta HS Vikings begin postseason play on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at Latta. It is the first round of the South Carolina state playoffs in the "Lower State" bracket, with Elloree (SC) as their first opponent. For Latta, the playoffs offer a five game march toward a second consecutive South Carolina 1A title.

To arrive at postseason play, Latta High School (23-3) won South Carolina's Region 8A. Elloree, on the other hand, struggled to a fourth place finish in Region 5A, losing a play-in game against Lamar to face the dubious honor of meeting the powerhouse Vikings.

Felton suffered a sprained ankle in the last game of the season but is now healthy and ready to compete.

The winner of Friday night's matchup will face the winner of Johnsonville (SC)/Baptist Hill (SC) game in a second round contest on February 26 at 7:00 p.m., also to be held at Latta High School.

The Felton Watch: Felton's 734 total points this season have brought him to a career total of 2,679 points. He is now within 17 points of breaking the all-time South Carolina career points record of 2,695, set by Hartsville's (SC) Roderick Blakeney from 1990 - 1994.

Raymond will almost certainly break the record on Friday night in Latta's first playoff contest and this is sure to please the appreciative Latta High School fans.
