Rockingham Combine Report

Norman Whitley was a good host Saturday during the Shrine Bowl Combine held at his high school – Richmond Senior. Whitley was sure to show visiting players how each drill was done by placing in the top five or so in each combine event.

Combine's Top Five Performances

Norman Whitley, TB, Richmond Sr., 5'8", 176 lbs.

Whitley definitely represented the home team by posting solid numbers in each drill highlighted by a 4.06-second 20-yard shuttle. He also ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash, vertically jumped 33.9 inches, and even rep'd 185 pounds 20 -- amazing for a tailback of his size.

Kurtis Campbell, TB, Hoke County, 5'10", 174 lbs.

Campbell just came up short of garnering the number one ranking. He was a hundreth of a second behind Whitley in the 20-yard shuttle (4.07 seconds), a rep short on the bench press (19 reps), and three tenth of the second short of Whitley's 40-yard dash time (4.51 seconds). Campbell did edge Whitley in the vertical with a 35.1 inch jump.

Joel McCoy, TB, Raleigh Athens Drive, 5'10", 192 lbs.

Although McCoy's combine numbers are impressive, it's the fact that he posted such numbers weighing close to 200 pounds that is so amazing. McCoy showed unbelievable change of direction with a 4.18-second 20-yard shuttle, and pure break away speed with a 4.47-second 40-yard dash.

Tim Brown, LB, Richmond Sr., 6'1", 192 lbs.

Brown proved he has the ability to be a sideline-to-sideline type linebacker after recording a 40-yard dash time of 4.64 seconds and a 20-yard dash time of 4.28 seconds. He also added a 32.8 inch vertical jump.

Owen Spencer, WR, North Brunswick, 6'2", 160 lbs.

Although Spencer's 4.49-second 40-yard dash and 4.25-second 20-yard shuttle times are impressive, it was his performance during one-on-one drills that made him stand out. Spencer ran crisp routes and showed nice hands.
