Whitley Gets Official Offer

A few weekends back, Norman Whitley headed up to Chapel Hill to make the scholarship offer extended to him by the Tar Heels' coaching staff official. Not only did he get his official tender, Whitley left with a better insight into the North Carolina program and of their recruiting situation at tailback.

"They gave me my offer when I was there," said Whitley. "I also talked to Coach [Andre] Powell. He just told me they are going to take two running backs and then they are going to stop. I know they are also gunning for Josh Adams [of Cary, N.C.]."

Before receiving his official scholarship offer, the 5-foot-10, 185-pound tailback from Rockingham (N.C.) Richmond observed the Tar Heels' Blue-White Spring Game. Although many recruits were in attendance, Whitley was given the VIP treatment throughout the day.

"During the spring game they had me on the sideline," said Whitley. "When I was on the sideline they had me on the big Jumbotron when I was talking to Coach [John] Bunting – which I enjoyed. During the visit I just felt like the number one guy. Coach Powell singled me out from a group of people and had me come to his office."

Whitley denies any favorites, but admits he is fond of North Carolina and can easily picture himself in the offense.

"I like North Carolina," said Whitley. "I feel like whoever commits there they will get a good chance to play. I feel like I will fit in their offense well, and I can make an impact whereever they play me."

Whitely does hope to have established a top five or six by the end of May.

Last weekend, Whitley was the toast of the Shrine Bowl combine held in his hometown. He ran a 4.47-second 40-yard dash, 4.06-second 20-yard shuttle, vertically jumped 33.9 inches, and even rep'd 185 pounds 20 times.
