Durant Enjoys Trip To Chapel Hill

A good barometer on whether an official visit is going well is when a mother starts crying with joy – and that's exactly what happened with Kevin Durant and his mom this past weekend.

"I liked the visit a lot," said the 6-foot-8 ½, 205-pound Oak Hill Academy forward. "My parents loved it, too, and my mother started crying. She said she was so proud of me and that North Carolina would be a good place for me."

"I really love Coach (Roy) Williams," added Durant. "He's a great guy."

The visit by Durant and his teammate, point guard Tywon Lawson, came a week after the duo's first official to UConn.

Durant said he'd really like to take a trip to Texas, but he's not sure if it'll happen before he makes a decision – which should come sometime before the Nike All-American Camp in early July.

The visit to Chapel Hill was impressive, but Durant also enjoyed his trip to Storrs, Conn., a week earlier.

"That was a great visit," Durant said. "I felt at home and got a chance to hang out with Rudy (Gay) and Marcus (Williams). I really liked the atmosphere up there."

"UConn and North Carolina are the two favorites right now," Durant added. "But I like Texas also. I just haven't seen it yet, so it's hard to compare."

Durant said you can basically eliminate Georgia Tech, Kentucky and Louisville from the mix at this point.

Durant will take a couple weeks off and try and focus on finishing up the semester strong in the classroom. The next event he'll attend with the D.C. Blue Devils is the Memorial Day Classic in New Orleans.

"The biggest thing for me in my decision is going somewhere that I can see myself benefiting for the rest of my life," Durant said. "Not just for the three or four years I'll be there, but I want it to be a lifetime thing."
