As for why the Tar Heels have taken the lead?
"It's the whole package - and I grew up a Tar Heel fan," he said. "Even if they hadn't been successful [last season] they'd still be on my list because I grew up one of their fans.
"It's real hard to not think about them. They have the whole package - athletic and academic. They look at me as a person, instead of just as a player. They have connections and everything everywhere. It's crazy not to show interest in that school."
Williams will be in Chapel Hill twice over the next month for two different UNC events.
"I'm going to two programs with them in June," he said. "June 2-4 is an educational kind of thing. Then I'm going to their summer camp from the 8th-10th."
So, North Carolina now stands atop his leaderboard, with NC State, Virginia and South Carolina rounding out his list of favorites.
The Gamecocks are a new addition to the list.
"South Carolina said they are going to offer," Williams said. "The running backs coach and recruiting coordinator from the area came down last Thursday and Coach [Steve] Spurrier is going to come down and see me.
"They have a few young receivers, but they are only two-deep at the position right now so they're really going after receivers this year. They said that I probably have a chance to come in and start or work my way up."
