WVU AD travels to Chapel Hill to see Wojcik

Inside Carolina has learned that West Virginia athletic director Ed Pastilong was in Chapel Hill on Wednesday.

North Carolina assistant coach Doug Wojcik is being considered for the head coaching vacancy in Morgantown.

Pastilong attended the UNC junior varsity game early Wednesday evening at the Smith Center. The JV squad is coached by Wojcik.

The JV team trailed 72-55 to Hargrave Academy (Va.) before a vocal Wojcik inspired a 30-6 run to close out the game for an 82-78 win.

"We're going to talk to two or three assistants, and he's right there," Pastilong told the N&O. "In the references he had from [UNC coach Matt] Doherty and [athletics director] Dick Baddour, and the fact that he coached in the Big East with Doherty [at Notre Dame], I felt I had to come talk to him. So far, I can't say enough about him." (link)

West Virginia's interest in Wojcik was first reported in an ESPN.com article on Tuesday (link). The Mountaineers are reportedly eying Cincinnati's Bob Huggins, a WVU alum, but in the meantime have been taking a look at highly regarded assistants.

He concluding a record-breaking playing career at Navy in 1987, and was an assistant coach for the Midshipmen for nine years. He then joined Matt Doherty's staff at Notre Dame before heading to Chapel Hill after one year in South Bend.
