N.J. LB Plans UNC Visit

Nick Macaluso, a linebacker from Middletown (N.J.) South HS, demonstrated his toughness over the course of the 2004 season playing most of season with a broken wrist.

Despite the injury, he garnered 85 tackles, 5 sacks, 4 blocked punts, 4 forced fumbles, 1 interception, 1 defensive touchdown, and made first team all-shore and first team all-state in New Jersey.

He helped lead his high school to a perfect 12-0 mark and a Group 3 championship for a second year in a row. Nick also excels in the classroom with in excess of a 4.4 GPA.

"I have written offers from Duke and Rutgers," Macaluso said. "I also have verbal offers from Boston College, Minnesota, and Michigan State."

While still early in the process, he cites five favorites.

"I'd say my favorites are Duke, Stanford, Northwestern, Boston College, and North Carolina," he said.

A visit to Chapel Hill this summer is in the works.

"I don't know too much about the program and the school so I plan to take a trip down there to see Duke and North Carolina this summer," Macaluso said. "Coach Brock from North Carolina is my recruiting coordinator. He is a real personable guy."

And don't expect Macaluso's recruitment to drag into early 2006. He plans to make a decision sooner, rather than later.

"I'd like to get my recruiting over fairly early," he said.
