Heels Offer Taylor King

Taylor King had a pretty good weekend. He helped lead the Southern Cal All-Stars to a title at the Tournament of Champions and that wasn't all he brought back from his trip to North Carolina. The 6-foot-7 rising junior at Mater Dei (Calif.) also picked up a scholarship offer from the Tar Heels while on an unofficial visit on Monday.

"Coach (Roy) Williams basically said ‘We have a scholarship for you if you'd like to come here,'" said Steve King, Taylor's father.

Steve King said it wasn't quite as clear-cut as the UCLA offer that King accepted prior to his freshman year at Mater Dei. However, sources close to the situation indicate that UNC would take a verbal commit at this time if King were ready to pull the trigger.

However, don‘t expect King to make another verbal pledge for a while.

"There's very little chance of him committing before the end of his junior year," Steve King said.

Steve King said that his son is still considering UCLA. He also mentioned UNC, Duke, Villanova, USC, Arizona and Gonzaga.

"We really enjoyed the visit to North Carolina," King said. "The whole atmosphere and how they treat their student-athletes. It's all first-class. Distance has never been an issue for us."

"Taylor played real well this past weekend," Southern Cal All-Stars boss Pat Barrett said. "He rebounded well and passed it well. His visit went really well to North Carolina. They definitely want him; Roy Williams called me yesterday."
