Frye Picks Up Third Offer

While Fayetteville Britt safety Alex Frye continues to wait and see if he will be offered a football scholarship by his childhood favorite North Carolina, Virginia has joined Duke and Wake Forest on his list of schools that have offered.

"I've been hoping for a long time to play at Carolina," Frye told Inside Carolina back on April 27. But it now appears, especially considering the Tar Heels have since received verbal commitments from a couple of in-state defensive back/athlete-types, that UNC will wait until after Frey attends camp in Chapel Hill later this month before extending an offer – if then.

"Coach [Hal] Hunter called me up recently and encouraged me to come to camp to work with the defensive backs coach (Marvin Sanders)," Frye said. "Hopefully, I'll get an offer then. I would like to stay fairly close to home. I want to major in business or law."

Meanwhile the Cavaliers have yet to crack Frye's upper echelon, despite the recent offer.

"My top five would be UNC, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and Tennessee," he said on Wednesday.

Frye, an outstanding student, has good size at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds; and speed (4.55 over 40 yards). He has also shown excellent athleticism with his 38-inch vertical leap. Last year he collected five interceptions and made over 50 tackles.

Along with UNC, Frye also plans on attending camps at Maryland and Tennessee.
