North Carolina has begun its pre-spring strength and conditioning testing program, and several Tar Heels broke records on the first day of testing. Records are maintained for each position, and the records set are for the individual position of the player.

Jason Brown, who saw time last year as a true freshman on the offensive line, shattered the power clean record of 363 previously held by Alan Mogridge for offensive linemen by cleaning 392. "That was pretty significant," said Strength and Conditioning coach Jeff Connors. Brown already owns the squat record for offensive linemen, a record he set as a true freshman.

Malcolm Stewart cleaned 358. breaking the previous linebacker mark of 352 held by Brandon Spoon.

Wide receiver Sam Aiken bested the mark of 314 set by Jamal Jones in the powerclean with 319.

Deep snapper Greg Warren broke his own record for specialists in the power clean with 336, bettering his previous mark of 331.

"I was pleased," said Coach Connors. "We lost a lot of strength [to graduation], statistically, but these guys are really working hard."
