Heels Target Another D.C. CB

This recruiting season, the North Carolina coaching staff seems to be hitting the nation's capital pretty hard. Two weeks ago, Washington D.C. native LeCount Fantroy verbally committed to the Tar Heels, while another D.C. cornerback, Vontae Davis, is also high on the Tar Heels' wish list.

"The head coach, Coach [John] Bunting, he came up to D.C. to see me play," said Davis. "I believe after he saw my performance in a little combine. He offered me the next day.

"I talk to Coach Thigpen and Coach Bunting a lot. I have to call Coach Bunting soon, because he's been texting me to contact him."

Davis, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound cornerback from Washington (D.C.) Dunbar, also has offers from Illinois, Rutgers, Maryland, Duke, Temple, Akron, and Kent State.

The UNC coaching staff is eager to get in touch with Davis in order to iron out a date for his unofficial visit to Chapel Hill.

"I'm supposed to visit North Carolina pretty soon – sometime in July," said Davis, "Just for a visit, not for a camp or anything."

Despite his limited knowledge of the program, Davis considers UNC along with Illinois and Maryland among his top three schools.

"I just like that the program is a good program, and they have good academics. It's somewhere where I can see myself playing."

On his way to All-League and All-City honors, Davis picked off six passes last season.
