White In No Rush

There is absolutely no doubt at this time North Carolina has the inside track for the services of speedy Asheville (N.C.) tailback Johnny White. However, on Thursday, White nixed rumors of an impending verbal commitment.

Now it appears Johnny White will wait at least until attending camp at Chapel Hill July 15-16…or even later.

But White also made it clear UNC is his prohibitive favorite and the Tar Heels to lose.

"Right now, it looks like it is Carolina," White said. "Just because what I saw when I went down and the coaches and the facilities. They're definitely a program that is on the way up.

"I don't really have do have timetable," he added. "I m not sure when I'll make the decision."

The UNC coaching staff is on vacation until after the July 4th holiday weekend.

White also said it doesn't make a difference to him if he commits before or after his senior football season begins this fall.

In the meantime, UNC assistant coach Andre' Powell, White's primary UNC recruiter, will continue to court White, who is known for his breakaway speed, cutback ability and field vision.

As a junior, he ran for 2,167 yards and had 39 touchdowns; and was named Western N.C. Player of the Year.

White said he currently also holds offers from South Carolina and Arkansas.
