After retiring in 2001, Reese went back to his hometown in the Bronx and worked with developmentally disabled kids before moving to Charlotte in 2003, where he continued that work while keeping an eye open for coaching jobs.
Reese first heard about the Porter Ridge job through Bobby Jones, another former UNC player who was working with Reese at a basketball camp this summer.
